Voters in metro Atlanta cast ballots on Election Day | Live updates

Key races to know about include the South Fulton mayor race, the Public Service Commission (PSC), and many more.

ATLANTA — It is Election Day! Peach State residents are turning out to the polls to vote in municipal races all over metro Atlanta.

Key races to know about include the Atlanta Mayor race, the Atlanta City Council President race, the South Fulton mayor, the Public Service Commission (PSC), and many more.

Mayor Andre Dickens is running for reelection and facing three challengers. This race is being watched to see how his leadership is being viewed by Atlanta residents.

Current Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman is not seeking reelection. Marci Collier Overstreet, who was very vocal during the MARTA escalator mishap, and Rohit Malhotra are both seeking to win the vote.

The South Fulton Mayor’s race is one to watch as Mayor Khalid Kamau runs for reelection despite his criminal trespassing charge and council members accusing him of misusing city fundsKamau’s new attorney represented him at a court hearing the day before Election Day after he pleaded not guilty in the case in September. He is expected to appear in court for a final plea on Nov. 18.

The PSC is the regulating body in Georgia that sets rates for Georgia Power, among other responsibilities. No elections for the five-seat commission have been held since 2022 due to a lawsuit that challenged the structure of PSC elections. The lawsuit was ultimately unsuccessful, and now, two seats are up for grabs.

Things to know for Election Day

Polls open at 7 a.m. Polls close at 8 p.m. in the City of Atlanta only after a judge ordered to keep the polls open for an extra hour.  Voters should bring photo ID to show a poll worker, who will use it to verify that they are registered to cast their ballots.

Voters who arrive at a polling place but do not meet all the requirements have the right to request a provisional ballot. The vote will count as long as the eligibility issue is resolved within three days after Election Day.
