Beachgoers discover over a dozen skinned canines washed up in Washington

The grim discoveries have rattled the island community, often referred to as “Dog Island” for its strong connection to pets.

SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. — Washington officials are investigating after beachgoers found at least 13 canine carcasses washed ashore in coastal Skagit County in recent days. Authorities said the carcasses were found along several area shorelines.

The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office responded on March 26 to reports of six carcasses found along shorelines in the Guemes Island area. Officials referred to the findings as “canines,” and could possibly be dogs.
