Gas prices drop but remain elevated; Treasury Secretary ‘optimistic’ about $3 gas this summer

American gas prices remained elevated on Thursday. Secretary Bessent claimed the national average price would drop to $3 sometime between June and September.

WASHINGTON — American gas prices continued to drop on Thursday, despite uncertainty over the ceasefire talks with Iran and trade in the Strait of Hormuz amid a military blockade, although prices remained elevated when compared with pre-war levels.

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.093 on Thursday, according to AAA, a drop from Tuesday’s average of $4.108.
