Chief Justice nominee grilled over ties to powerful political action committee

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Supreme Court nominee Vladimir Devens apologized at his confirmation hearing for not disclosing his role as a director of a political action committee that spent millions on local campaigns.

Devens, a Berkeley-educated labor lawyer appointed by Gov. Green in 2023, served as a director of “Be Change Now” until 2022. He did not indicate that role on his judicial applications.

“Be Change Now,” was financed by Pacific Resource Partnership, which is funded by the Carpenters Union and unionized contractors, and has spent millions to influence in local campaigns over the years.
