NEW LONDON, N.H. (WCAX) – As the country approaches the 250th anniversary of July 4, 1776, a college professor is examining how the Declaration of Independence remains relevant in modern America.
Craig Gallagher, a professor at Colby-Sawyer College who teaches a class called “American Rebels,” said the document’s authors knew the risks they were taking.
“By declaring independence they were effectively committing treason against the British crown and they know by doing so that if they lose, they are probably getting the noose,” Gallagher said.
