ATKINSON, Ga. — A Georgia family is picking through the ashes of their home after a wildfire raced down Highway 82, forcing them to flee with only the clothes on their backs.

Carson Yawn said he and his family managed to escape on the morning of April 22 as fires suffocated Brantley County, in the state’s southeast.

A week later, Yawn returned to the property on Brushy Creek Road, where his home sits collapsed
