Several lawmakers have renewed their push to make disability benefits automatic after ‘Diagnosis Denied’ documentary

Veterans diagnosed with a rare muscle disease that can leave them unable to walk, swallow, or care for themselves are urging the Department of Veterans Affairs to make it easier to qualify for disability benefits.

The calls for change come after the release of “Diagnosis Denied,” a national investigation with 11Alive and four other TEGNA television stations. The report spoke with veterans living with Inclusion Body Myositis, or IBM, about their struggle to get benefits approved.
