Feds announce investigation of MARTA security: These are the statistics on violent crimes that have happened on trains

The announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation said federal officials wanted data ranging from crime trends and fare evasion enforcement to security spending as part of that investigation.

Following the stabbing of 66-year-old Margaret Swan last Saturday, 11Alive pulled some of that data that is already available.

The statistics show the number of violent crimes that have happened on different modes of transportation services over the past six years.

The data below represents number of violent crimes by type on MARTA since 2020. This is not specific to trains only, but is grouped together by trains,
