“I hope you enjoy the returns,” my dad texted me as Election Day turned into Election Night. “Where are you camped out?”

It was a great question without a simple answer. I had been invited to 10 Election Night parties and was aware of numerous more. Planning had begun days earlier with a flurry of group texts asking which ones I’d be attending and, crucially, when.
