Dunlap wins Democratic nomination for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District

AUGUSTA — State Auditor Matt Dunlap won the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congressional District, setting up a fall contest against former Republican Gov. Paul LePage.

Dunlap defeated three other candidates in the race that was decided following a ranked choice vote count.

On election night, state Sen. Joe Baldacci led with 32%, followed by Dunlap at 29%, Jordan Wood at 29% and Paige Loud at 10%.

Following the ranked choice count, Dunlap won the race followed by Baldacci.

The seat is open following the surprise decision in November by U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, a Democrat, not to seek reelection.
