June 28, 2026 marks the 110th birthday of Western Herald, celebrating over a century of journalism and dedication to delivering news to campus.
The first edition of Western Herald was published under the name “The Western Normal Herald” June 28, 1916, and the name would not change until 1927, when it was renamed “The Teachers College Herald.”
In this first, four-page edition, headlines include “1050 enroll first day,” and “Western graduates 400; largest class in history.”
