Political expert explains South Carolina’s Senate replacement process

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — News 13 asked a political science expert to explain the complicated process of replacing the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.

Graham died suddenly at age 71 on Saturday, July 11, his office announced.

Western Carolina University political science professor Chris Cooper says a couple of things have to happen when replacing the senator.

First, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster will appoint someone to fulfill the rest of Graham’s term. Graham’s term is up at the end of this year.
