Seattle’s apolitical fish fry still satisfies politicians after 30 years

It’s the second Wednesday of July, a grey Seattle summer day, and the sun has the audacity to peek out from behind a quilt of clouds. By evening the sunshine slices through the sky, everything blushing blue above Dawn Mason’s Annual Fish Fry and Birthday Party. 

“It’s never rained,” Dawn Mason says. 

For 30 years, Mason has hosted a fish fry in her backyard in Rainier Valley / Columbia City. It started out as a coworker hang, about 20 people and some hot dogs.

Today, it’s a  whole shebang with 302 registered guests from all over the city —  former Seahawks players,
