Atlanta’s legendary Manuel’s Tavern celebrates 70 years of beer, politics and history

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — While Atlanta lost one of its prized historical icons this week, another one is marking its 70th anniversary beginning Thursday.

Manuel’s Tavern is marking the occasion with discounted food specials and live entertainment that will last through the weekend. The legendary neighborhood watering hole with a generational history of loyal politicians (mostly Democrats), sports fans, police officers, students, artists and journalists will also have two different 70th anniversary shirts available.

In the late 1950s, Manuel Maloof purchased Harry’s Delicatessen and, on Aug. 6, 1956, opened it as Manuel’s Tavern.
