Firefighting crews in Calaveras County are getting a better handle on a wildfire that destroyed homes, injured a firefighter and forced hundreds to evacuate.
Cal Fire said the Gann Fire started shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday near Hogan Dam and Gann roads near New Hogan Lake. When it first began, large columns of smoke and fast-moving flames threatened nearby residents, prompting evacuation orders.
