A 27-year-old woman and a five-month-old baby girl have died after a boat overturned in New York harbor on Saturday night, police said.
The capsizing happened near Liberty Island, home to the iconic Statue of Liberty.
Police divers and aviation teams were sent to the scene after receiving a 911 call at about 10:25 p.m., the NYPD said.
Twelve people were rescued, while divers later located the woman and infant in the water, it said. Both were transported to hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Police have not confirmed if they are related.
