EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A major trade standoff is brewing on our northern border, and it could soon hit Western Wisconsin’s farms and factories right in the pocketbook.
Trade talks between the U.S. and Canada collapsed late Friday. In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney put the brakes on negotiations, accusing the U.S. of pushing for “unfair” and “uneconomic” terms.
“In short, they asked too much and offered too little,” Carney said.
Beginning this weekend, the U.S. is slapping a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports. But Canada isn’t backing down. Prime Minister Carney announced Canada will retaliate “dollar-for-dollar”
