Florida Governor Moves From Solid to Likely Republican

Florida has been a mirage for Democrats during the era of President Donald Trump. Some in the party hoped the Senate race could come online thanks to Alex Vindman’s massive fundraising hauls, but his loss to democratic socialist Angie Nixon effectively took that race off the table.

But privately, Florida Democrats had long been more bullish on the open governor’s race than the Senate contest. That’s in part because gubernatorial races are typically less nationalized than federal ones, but also because Democrats have a strong ticket in former GOP Rep. David Jolly and his running mate, former Democratic Rep. Gwen Graham.
