State Senator Nick Collins of South Boston declared victory against Mayor Michelle Wu-backed challenger Latoya Gayle in a closely watched Democratic primary Tuesday night, while a race between first-time candidate Daniel Lander and incumbent state Senator William Brownsberger was too close to call in the early hours after polls closed, the campaigns said.
