On Tuesday an overwhelming number of lawmakers voted to censure Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina after the bipartisan House Ethics Committee said he acted inappropriately toward two young female staffers.
Edwards apologized to the women at the center of the investigation but emphasized the committee did not find he violated sexual misconduct law.
Tuesday’s censure though didn’t come with any other actionable repercussions.
“All he got was a talking to on the floor of the House. I think there needs to be real consequences,” said Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico who is the chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus.
