Against the backdrop of the current debate over the future of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, CSU leader Markus Söder in Bavaria has warned that the federal government could collapse.
It would be a disaster if, following the collapse of the last coalition under Olaf Scholz, the next democratic government were to fail shortly afterwards, one after the other, in quick succession, the Bavarian Premier said on Sunday ahead of a closed-door meeting of the CSU executive committee in Munich.
“There could be no better invitation – a penalty kick with no goalkeeper – for the AfD at this point,” Söder asserted.
