Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones has spent more than a decade terrorizing NFL quarterbacks, but organized football wasn’t even an option for him during much of his childhood.
Long before he became a face of the Chiefs’ championship era, Jones grew up in Houston, Mississippi, where his family struggled financially. In a 2017 profile on the Chiefs’ official website, Jones explained that youth football alone kept him from signing up.
“I couldn’t afford peewee when I was a kid—it was like $180 to sign up and then you had to buy your own cleats and all that, I couldn’t afford that,”
