PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A wanted suspect and a police dog were killed when U.S. Marshals tried to make an arrest at a southeast Portland hotel on Thursday afternoon, according to police.
According to officers with the Portland Police Bureau, the attempted arrest by the Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force began just after 1:45 p.m. at the Chestnut Tree Inn near Southeast Stark Street and Southeast 97th Avenue.
Police Chief Bob Day said the US Marshal’s operation on Thursday was not related to immigration enforcement, but was part of the federal government’s help with combating violent crime.
