Jeffrey Archer, UK novelist and former politician jailed for lying in libel case, dies at 86

Jeffrey Archer, a British bestselling author who sold more than 300 million book copies in his career and a former politician who was jailed for lying in a high-profile libel case, died Monday.

Reuters reported that Archer died one day before his final novel, “Adam and Eve,” was due to be published.

Archer’s publisher said the novelist “died suddenly and peacefully at home…between writing seasons.” He was 86 years old.

The novelist sold more than 300 million copies of his books, spent over five years on the New York Times
