WASHINGTON — More than a year after he ended the Biden-era federal policy of celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day alongside Columbus Day, President Donald Trump wholeheartedly embraced the Italian explorer’s first voyage to the Americas.
“I resurrected Christopher Columbus,” Trump said at a White House event Friday to celebrate Monday’s Columbus Day holiday. “They were taking a statue down, everything all over the place, and I put up a beautiful statue of Christopher Columbus right in front of the main office building … right across the street.”
