By investigating an Alaska Democratic Senate hopeful over her campaign’s reported involvement in recruiting a candidate with the same name as the Republican incumbent, President Donald Trump’s administration is targeting a political trick that has been used in American politics for decades.

He was recruited to the ticket by supporters of the third candidate in the race and its eventual winner, John F. Kennedy.
