UPDATED: California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a special election to fill the seat of Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), whose resignation went into effect on Tuesday.

The special election will be held on Aug. 18. The East Bay seat is regarded as solid Democratic by Cook Political Report.
