Deputies arrest 3 in Cherokee County for stealing copper, fiber optic cables

The damages and repairs are estimated to cost between $30,000 and $50,000.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Three men in Cherokee County were arrested after officers said they stole copper wiring and damaged utility poles.

The incident took place on Friday morning around 6:30 a.m.

Deputies who responded to the call located a minivan in a wooded area resting against a fence near a stack of cut copper wiring. They witnessed three men walking into a nearby wooded area.

Authorities say they immediately established a perimeter around the area and deployed a K-9 officer
