Isabella Bellezza Receives the 2026 Merze Tate Award for “Exporting Homeland Security: Network Politics and the Globalization of Border Control” –

The Merze Tate Award is presented annually by the American Political Science Association (APSA) to honor the best doctoral dissertation in the field of international relations, law, and politics.

Isabella Bellezza’s dissertation, “Exporting Homeland Security: Network Politics and the Globalization of Border Control,” cuts across the conventional divisions between the fields of International Security, International Political Economy, and International Organization to open up new frontiers of inquiry. Bellezza posits that borders are simultaneously security barriers and economic bridges. Bellezza then argues that the need to navigate this duality has led to international cooperation between border agencies.
