SUNDAY AM: Sony/Constantin’s Resident Evil racked up a greater score at the domestic box office with a $60M opening, which as we told you all along is not only a record for the franchise (that was clear when it came on tracking three weeks ago), but also for Zach Cregger. That opening alone nearly topples the lifetime cume of the previous highest grossing domestic Resident Evil, 2010’s Afterlife, which was juiced by the 3D craze back in the day, that pic finaling at $60.1M.
