WASHINGTON — Farmers have been grappling with sky-high diesel prices since the start of the war with Iran.
“We paid about $3.20 a gallon last year, and this year we’re up over $6.50 a gallon. So almost doubled,” said Luke Goessling, a soybean farmer in Whitewater, Wis.
He said he paid about $32,000 in fuel last year. This year, it’ll be about $64,000.
“The agriculture community and businesses are pretty bleak right now. On-farm profits are pretty low,” Goessling said.
