EXCLUSIVE: Guatemalan director Jayro Bustamante (Ixcanul, La Llorona) is set to direct thriller República Luminosa in which a remote island town is terrorized by 32 feral children who emerge out of the surrounding jungle.
Rodrigo Teixeira’s RT Features, which is in Cannes this year with James Gray’s Palme d’Or contender Paper Tiger and Dominga Sotomayor’s La Perra in Directors’ Fortnight, is fully financing the film. Lucky Number is handling international sales, with CAA Media Finance handling domestic.
The feature is adapted from best-selling Spanish author Andrés Barba’s eponymous 2021 novel, titled a A Luminous Republic in English.
